The Challenge
Two aging fire alarm systems, one district-wide upgrade
The Mont Vernon school district came to Pro Technologies with a familiar challenge for any public building that has been in service for decades. Their fire alarm systems had been doing their job for years, but the panels were aging, parts were getting harder to source, and the patchwork of mixed-vendor hardware across two separate school buildings was making routine inspections and service calls slower than they should be.
The district needed both buildings brought up to a current, code-compliant standard, ideally on the same platform so service, testing, and future expansion would all be straightforward. Like every school project, it also had to happen on a schedule that worked around the school year and the daily rhythm of the buildings.
What we built
Steve Lawrence and the team designed a coordinated replacement that addressed both school buildings on a unified platform. Each building got new addressable fire alarm control panels, properly sized notification appliance circuits, and dedicated communicators that report directly to our central station, so a real event in either building reaches the right people fast.
The work was sequenced so the district was never without a working fire alarm system. Old panels stayed live while the new ones were installed and tested, then everything was cut over cleanly with full code-compliant testing on each device before sign-off.
The Result
Both Mont Vernon school buildings now run identical, modern, code-compliant fire alarm systems with direct communication to central station. Inspections are faster because the technicians and inspectors are working with one platform across both sites. When parts or expansion are needed, the district isn't chasing down components for a system that's been out of production for years.
