Last week, Pro Technologies was hired to provide the annual Fire Alarm Test and Inspection for a commercial building that houses over 200 employees. Although the existing system has been in place for many years, this is a new customer to us and a new property for Pro Technologies to provide fire alarm inspection services.
As required by the National Fire Protection Association guidelines, we tested every device attached to the control system including all smoke and heat detectors, all horns and strobes and all environmental gas detection devices.
Much to everyone’s surprise we found that none of the gas detection devices and none of the carbon monoxide detectors were operating. And while testing the system in a live condition (the same as if a fire was detected) we discovered that none of the automatic door closers operated properly.
As you are reading this now, your mind is starting to think, “what would have happened if there was a gas leak in the building and no early detection of it? What if there was a deadly carbon monoxide leak and nothing warned the employees to get out of the building?” The liability of this situation to the owner is staggering.
This routine inspection reminds us all that all commercial fire systems must be tested every year by a reputable, qualified company that you can trust.
If you are concerned with your building’s fire protection and the life safety of the employees that work for you, feel free to contact Pro Technologies and we will be happy to provide our quality services to you.
